Golden Globes Nominations 2011: The Biggest Snubs - OK! Magazine

While some stars are showing their appreciation today for their Golden Globe 2011 nominations, others are sitting back quietly trying to figure out where they went wrong.

OK! GALLERY: GOLDEN GLOBES NOMINATIONS 2011 — BLAIR UNDERWOOD, JOSH DUHAMEL AND KATIE HOLMES ANNOUNCE THE NOMINEES!

According to MTV’s Movie Blog, there were three major Golden Globes snubs this year.

First up, True Grit starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Hailee Steinfeld. The Coen Bros. film didn’t earn a single nomination even after it made the top 10 films of the year list by AFI and Critics’ Choice Awards.

127 Hours was another film MTV felt was snubbed in the categories of Best Picture and Director.

As Danny Boyle’s film following Slumdog Millionaire, it’s a bit surprising it didn’t make the cut for those categories.

Finally on MTV’s list was Toy Story 3. Even though the Golden Globes don’t usually nominated animated films for Best Musical or Comedy, MTV thinks they should have made an exception with this film! What do you think?

E! News came up with a slightly longer list for those have been snubbed by this year’s Golden Globes.

True Grit was also at the top of their list, but so was True Blood, which also didn’t receive any nominations.

Inception and Shutter Island, but no nominations for Leonardo DiCaprio in either role? E! News dubs this a snub.

And actress Julia Roberts also made their list for her lack of nomination for Eat Pray Love. If Angelina Jolie was nominated for The Tourist, then they think Julia definitely should be!

Can you think of any others?

Golden Globe Nominations Are Announced, But Where Are The Vampires? - MTV.com

The Hollywood Foreign Press has released its list of nominees for the 2011 Golden Globes, and we're pleased that so many of our favorites got some recognition. So congrats Ryan Gosling, Anne Hathaway, Matthew Morrison, Emma Stone, and everyone else who got nominated; we've been rooting for you the whole time! But still, we couldn't help feel like there was one supernatural fanged creature that got snubbed this year. Where are all of our favorite vampires?

It's not too much of a stretch to have expected at least "True Blood" to be on the list. Anna Paquin won Best Actress back in 2009 and was nominated in 2010, and the show received Best Drama noms the past two years, as well. But this year it was booted from the list by the likes of "Boardwalk Empire" and "The Walking Dead," and consistent awards show favorites "Dexter," "Mad Men" and "The Good Wife." And none of the "True Blood" actors earned any recognition for their consistently awesome performances throughout the third season.

But "True Blood" wasn't the only vampire series up for contention that was ignored in this year's Globes nominations. "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" also got the cold shoulder. What does this mean for the vampire fad as we know it?!

Okay, so maybe it was a bit much to expect that "Eclipse" would get any sort of nomination seeing that they've been ignored at the Globes in the past. And we know it's a pretty big stretch to think that a film critics society is going to give "The Twilight Saga" any acting or directing nods. But we think it's about time that the series starts getting recognized for the awesome music it's been putting out. If half the artists on this year's soundtrack were nominated for Grammys, it stands to reason that they should start getting looked at seriously for the original tracks they made for these films.

As for "The Vampire Diaries," well, they were snubbed last year as well, but we'd argue that the second season really found its footing and maybe things should have changed this time around. At least a Best Actor in a Supporting Role nod for Ian Somerhalder. I mean, really, Scott Caan got one for "Hawaii Five-0"? Really?

I think this just proves more than ever that vampires are automatically ruled out of serious contention because they are so wildly popular right now. Sure, some films and television shows that are jumping on the fanged bandwagon aren't worth the light of day (ah ha!), but there's some quality stuff out there. While being snubbed at the Globes probably won't dissuade studios from wanting to get in on the money-making spree, good shows not being acknowledged for their quality will perhaps discourage other upcoming projects from putting the effort in. And the last thing we need are more crappy vampire films and TV shows diluting the genre.

Do you think that vampires should have gotten more love at the Golden Globes this year? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!

Golden Globes 2011: Nominees react - OnTheRedCarpet.com

 1 of 25:

Natalie Portman received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for "Black Swan", which sees her play a shy ballerina fighting to keep her starring role and her dark side in check while being challenged by a rival dancer (Mila Kunis) and manipulative dance master (Vincent Cassel). The movie earned a total of four nods.

Portman said in a statement: "I'm very honored by the HFPA nomination, and to be included in this group of actresses I so admire. The experience of filming 'Black Swan' with Darren Aronofsky and our incredible crew is already the most fulfilling experience of my career. The audience appreciation of the film is only furthering how grateful and proud I am to be part of the film."

Emma Stone receives 2011 Golden Globe nomination for role in 'Easy A' - Examiner.com

Emma Stone just received a 2011 Golden Globe nomination. Stone's 2011 Golden Globe nomination comes from Easy A, a film that she starred in this past year. Stone was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical Motion Picture, but she will be up against some very tough competition in that category.

Other nominees for Best Actress include Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right), Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs), Angelina Jolie (The Tourist), and Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Right). Amongst those giants of the industry, this nomination is a very nice surprise, and maybe a nod to the voters from the younger generations.

For Spokane movie fans that didn't catch this one in theaters, it will be on DVD very soon. Spokane area stores will have Easy A on shelves beginning on Dec. 21, 2010. This will be the first chance to catch it, even before the Red Box locations finally receive the film. With this Golden Globe nomination for Stone now, it might make the film worth picking up.

Easy A came out back on Sep. 17, 2010, making just over $58 million in the domestic box office, which is a nice profit for the film. It was also the first real starring role for Stone, who has played the supporting character in films like Zombieland, The House Bunny, Superbad, and Ghost of Girlfriends Past. She will also star in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.

As for her chances of winning the 2011 Golden Globe for Best Actress, it seems like a stretch to anticipate a win from her. She may have been really good in Easy A, but the stiff competition in the category could really work against her. The 2011 Golden Globes presentation will be on Sunday, Jan. 16 at 5 pm PST, shown on NBC (channel 6 for Spokane viewers).

James Franco is 'Grateful' and 'Excited' for Golden Globe Nomination - TheCelebrityCafe.com

Franco: "I'm especially grateful to the [Hollywood Foreign Press Association] for this honor and I'm excited to see '127 Hours' being recognized this awards season"

The nominees for the 2011 Golden Globe Awards were announced Tuesday morning. On the show, Matt Lauer talked to one of the nominees, James Franco. His film 127 Hours , based on a true story, scored four nominations, including Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Director for Danny Boyle, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for James Franco.

Franco called in from Rhode Island and spoke to Matt Lauer, who congratulated the actor. Franco said, "Oh, thank you. I just heard, yes, my friend Barry from Fox/Searchlight [told me]. He's a text message friend. We send each other photos of fat animals."

He explained he is especially proud for the nomination of the film itself. "You would think that movie would be the most static kind of narrative around, but actually I think Danny Boyle [made one of the] most dynamic movies out there," Franco said.

In a statement to MTV News, Franco also said, "I'm especially grateful to the [Hollywood Foreign Press Association] for this honor and I'm excited to see 127 Hours being recognized this awards season. I'm happy for Danny Boyle and his team and our [directors of photography Enrique Chediak] and Anthony [Dod Mantle], who were there with me down in the canyon! I am so proud of the film and that Aron Ralston's story has been well received!"

In a separate statement, Danny Boyle expressed his excitement, saying, "We're absolutely delighted to be included in the nominations for the Golden Globes… I'm particularly pleased for James as it's such a brave and exhilarating performance, and for Aron Ralston who took such a leap of faith in letting us tell his story in such an uncompromising way."

James Franco will be co-hosting the 2011 Academy Awards. With the news of the Golden Globe nominations, Franco and 127 Hours may very well earn multiple Oscar nods as well. The 2011 Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Ricky Gervais, are set to air January 16, 2011 on NBC.
