Emma Stone just received a 2011 Golden Globe nomination. Stone's 2011 Golden Globe nomination comes from Easy A, a film that she starred in this past year. Stone was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical Motion Picture, but she will be up against some very tough competition in that category.
Other nominees for Best Actress include Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right), Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs), Angelina Jolie (The Tourist), and Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Right). Amongst those giants of the industry, this nomination is a very nice surprise, and maybe a nod to the voters from the younger generations.
For Spokane movie fans that didn't catch this one in theaters, it will be on DVD very soon. Spokane area stores will have Easy A on shelves beginning on Dec. 21, 2010. This will be the first chance to catch it, even before the Red Box locations finally receive the film. With this Golden Globe nomination for Stone now, it might make the film worth picking up.
Easy A came out back on Sep. 17, 2010, making just over $58 million in the domestic box office, which is a nice profit for the film. It was also the first real starring role for Stone, who has played the supporting character in films like Zombieland, The House Bunny, Superbad, and Ghost of Girlfriends Past. She will also star in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.
As for her chances of winning the 2011 Golden Globe for Best Actress, it seems like a stretch to anticipate a win from her. She may have been really good in Easy A, but the stiff competition in the category could really work against her. The 2011 Golden Globes presentation will be on Sunday, Jan. 16 at 5 pm PST, shown on NBC (channel 6 for Spokane viewers).
